Pilates can build your strength and endurance pretty well. The springs create tension and with the body properly aligned there isn’t room for any cheating.
Depending on the class, it can also increase your metabolism. We do this by switching exercises in a circuit and working within your individual level to make it hard enough to get your heart rate up, and to switch on some pretty important hormones to start burning fat.
Also, the cardio tramp (think of jumping on a trampoline, but lying down!) can get your heart rate pretty high, thus giving you some cardiovascular exercise too (that’s great for your heart).
